Emptiness fills my stomach

The pages of the Bible
make a poor meal
for the man
whose stomach is empty

“Light, love and inner peace”
provide little comfort
for the single mother
with mouths to feed

Blessings and prayer
Pretending you care
But not even visiting
with food you can share

Emptiness fills my stomach
Your hypocrisy stains my mind
It’s food that I need,
not clever little words
and, then, my heart you’ll find.
