Questions of joy

Is joy really real?
Or is it a manufactured
state of emotion?
Is it relative to what we feel?
Or does it come from
drinking some magic potion?

Is it in the head?
A condition of the heart?
Does it change blue to red?
Can we feel it apart
from each other?

This thing of joy
So hard to explain
This thing of joy
So hard to obtain

The ease of instant gratification
in a world geared towards the self
Joy needs no explanation
it’s been packaged on the shelf

My mind boggles
My eyes, they do deceive
When what I think is true joy
is merely to believe

The eyes of my child
lighting up with laughter
will give me enough joy
from to here to hereafter

The kiss of my wife
and her warm hand holding mine
will give me enough joy
’till I part to the Divine

The beauty of my family
and the love that we all share
will give me enough joy
so much more than I can bear

I find my joy
in the littlest things
and now I understand
that the litle things
mean more to Him
and we are in His hand.
