The day I ran out of things to say
I learned to shut up
and stop getting my own way
I stopped being a fool
thinking I was cool
to always have an answer for everything
Beads of truth glistened
like early morning dew
and I learned as I listened
and in listening I grew
Still with no words
no adjectives or verbs
I clung to what little I knew
of being quiet when all I wanted to do
was talk, talk and talk some more
I realised how much less I knew
and what an ass that I had been
to go and offer my point of view
with so little that I had seen
The day I ran out of things to say
was the day I realised
I had a debt to pay.

This is not a poem about me. :)

I wonder what the teachers of the Law had to say after talking with the 12 year old Jesus?

Do you think they “ran out of things to say” in their amazement?
